Apparently, if a tiny kitten crawls into a dirty old Irish fire place and gets covered in chimney ash (soot) then it’s appropriate to call it ‘Sooty’. That’s how my Grandfather decided to name his kitten ‘Sooty’. I guess chimney ash is lucky, or maybe its just because the kitten was Irish, but ‘Sooty’ got to ride in Grandpa Paddy’s Irish tweed coat pocket to Dublin castle to work each day. I mean, that seems like a lucky life for a cat in 1925. This pillow reminds me of what the colour of 1925 Irish chimney soot must have looked like. Is ’Soot’ a word?
